Tsavo East National Park

Tsavo East National Park is one of the oldest and largest African safari parks popular for viewing animals and birds in Kenya. It was established in 1948 and covers an area of 11,747 square km.

Tsavo National Park was established on 1 April 1948 covering a total area of 21,812 km². In May 1948 Tsavo National Park was divided into East and West for administrative purposes and the size of Tsavo East is little bigger than Tsavo West. The two Parks are divided by Nairobi–Mombasa railway /road. It is one of the world's important biodiversity hotspots.

The park offers a mixed topography such as wet marshlands near the palm-fringed Galana River , thorny bushes, and flat dry plains. Except for the remote Kenyan wilderness, there are some areas for visitors to tour around and enjoy Kenyan wildlife viewing. Galana River, Yatta Plateau as well as dams and pools supplying water to animals and birds are the key attractions.

Once this park was known for a pair of maneless male man-eating lions, who killed135 railway workers. But now the park is famous for The Big Five - buffalo, dust red African elephants, rhinos lions, and leopards besides the pods of hippo, lesser Kudu, gerenuk giraffes, gazelles, waterbucks, hartebeests, mongoose, black faced vervet monkeys, Sykes's monkeys, , and zebras and nearly 500 species of birds which hold the guarantee of some fascinating game drive experiences to its visitors.

The famous places of tourist attractions of Mombasa and Malindi make the park ideal for one-day safari also. The park also offers opportunities for overnight camping.
