Covering an area of 3,230 Square km, Mikumi National Park is the fourth-largest national park of Tanzania. It guarantees the most wildlife sightings, which makes it an ideal safari destination. Mikumi is a famous tourist hotspot of Tanzania and is located between the Uluguru Mountains and the Lumango range. The majority of visitors come to this park aiming to spot ‘Big Five’ (cheetah, lion, elephant, buffalo, and rhino). The Other animals that can be found here, although infrequent are the Sable Antelope residing in the southern part of the park nearby the Selous, leopard, and the wild dog, also known as the African Hunting Dog.
The Mkata Floodplains, the popular focus of Mikumi, draw the attention in comparison to the Serengeti Plains. Home to more than 400 bird species, with some colourful common residents as Lilac-breasted roller, yellow-throated long claw and bateleur eagle are recorded here.
The star attraction of the pools are the Hippos situated 5km north of the main entrance gate, supported by an ever-changing cast of water birds.
